Question:
Anyone else wondering why we're having all these Earthquakes?

I swear its been only a short period of time and we had such a crazy amount of Earth quakes all over the planet. We had Haiti, Chili, Turkey, now we had another hit in California and northern Mexico today. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? Is there like a scientific reason for this because it seems like we went from having a few Earthquakes to a neverending chain of them.

And when I asked for a reason I didnt ask for you to lecture me on how God is punishing us for our sins I asked for an ACTUAL reason.

no. There are no more quakes than normal. No stronger quakes than normal.

What it is is an illusion. 99% of the people do not factor in several things

1) there are more people alive now than say 30 years ago. So more people to feel a quake.

2) people are moving into more areas previously uninhabited. As such any quake there before was never really felt (much less recorded).

3) they are also moving into more areas where seismic activity takes place

4) we have better recording and detecting instruments than we had even from 30 years ago. They are more sensitive, as well as being of new technologies.

add on:

the twit talking about the dam in China has no clueas the plates shift about on the molten mantle and does not affect the poles at all

And since I live in Alaska there are no more quakes than normal here.

Earthquakes are a natural part of Earth's geology - as to why so many seem to be happening recently, the fully scientific and impartial answer is simply random chance. Of course, aftershocks within a particular region are directly related to the original quake, but the fact that more regions than average have suffered earthquakes recently is simply a matter of random statistical variance.

There are some theories of "Earthquake Storms" - situations whereby tectonic activity in one area alters stresses in a different area of the globe resulting in subsequent events in these areas. Evidence for this type of theory is sparse and much more research is required on the subject. Past large quakes have not provided convincing evidence to lend credence to this theory. Also, the first in the recent group of earthquakes was in Haiti, and, while cataclysmic in human terms, this was not a very large event in geological terms. Accordingly, it is most unlikely to be related to any global shifts in tectonic stress. This year, only the Chili quake has be of historic proportions geologically.

You're right - God is not punishing us - as much as some would claim this as the cause. It's appears to be just a run of bad luck.

My sentiments exactly...What the heck is going on??? For weeks now Alaska and all around the oceanic Pacific plate has been rocking like crazy....I checked it almost everyday and hard core quakes have been everywhere,,,,but last night I noticed a world wide calming trend that by morning today all earthquakes ceased again....non anywhere....then at 3:40 I was rocked in a circular swaying motion for over a minute....I clicked on google earth and sat there as red quake indicator circles began appearing all over the border of Mexico.....it has been continuing ever since to the point that teh entire southern portion of California now resembles what the Chili coast has looked like on here.....its like a rubber band effect....and now it is snapping back.....I'll leave God out of it since he would be about as helpful as Casper in the long run.....his track record is not too impressive if you ask me...

Appearances are deceiving. It seems like a lot because they are close to you, but there were 42 major Earthquakes globally in 2009 with a Magnitude of 6.5 or greater. Check out the link and you will see just how many big damaging earthquakes happen worldwide at any given time!

tectonic plates are moveing a lot right now, includeing after shock and were most of them r there are major tectonic plates!

And why even say that! First off you obviouslly know nothing about christ! He did create the earth! how eles do u think u got here! And besides christ is not punishing us for are sins thouse are forgiven! it is just supposed to be the end of time and jessus is suposed to take all christian to heavn and the rest burn in he**.

I know its so weird. Im here in Australia and i woke up this morning and it was all on the news as breaking news and i thought not another one. here we have had a few in the last month and i had my first earthquake 4 weeks ago and we don't usually get many here. I feel like there's a really big one just around the corner. :)

A big dam in China finally filled up and it's tilting the earth's axis. The tectonic plates don't like it.
