please help me with the earth science questions?

Hi im having trouble with this questions

1. What is the difference between, the lithosphere and the asthenosphere?

2. What does the abbreviation GPS stand for?

3. From where does GPS receiver get its signal?

4. Why are GPS data not enough to confirm that the Earth's surface has been moving for many years?

5. What has cause the "zebra pattern" in the rock of the ocean floor?

6. What is the significance of the patterns of offsets along mod-ocean ridges?

Thank you very much, i would appreciated if you help me and with some good answers

Is this not in your textbook? It's much easier looking the answers up yourself than waiting for people to answer...and perhaps give your wrong answers as well. If it's not in your text book, Google it. It's faster than waiting. And you'll learn more as well.

my answer:

1. lithosphere [litho meaning soil - if not mistaken] is the layer above asthenosphere. lithos is rigid while asthe is more fluid-y

2.GPS = Global Positioning System

you dunno what this is? oh lol...but nvm

3.i dun quite get ur qns but GPS is connected to the satellite..it's sorta like as in satellite is the eyes [to see things] and then the GPS is where it draws the picture...

4.well scientists are never to be satisfied by only one prove. things have to be proven by many evidence. that's why gps data is not enough. other evidence support the GPS data and vice versa.

5. the zebra pattern is caused by the reversal of magnetic pole in the cooled basalt. eg, one time it is nort-pole facing the fault when basalt ooze out and then another era it is south-pole.

it is also supposedly mirror image-ish because the basalt in the sea floor spew out in both ways.

6. i dont quite get what u mean by this qns but uhh, i think you are talking about the ridges that is not a continuous line but offsets here and there. well if that's what u ask, i think it's because the sea floor is dynamic, it is always moving so therefore the ridges are not a continous one

gd luck!

The Lithosphere is below the asthenosphere. The lithosphere is more rigid while the asthenosphere flows more readily, the asthenosphere is weaker and hotter.

GPS stands for Global positioning system.

That's all I found
