I have to create a step by step process on how to find the surface area of a mountain. Online, I could only find results with digitl terrain mapping and other similar methods. I aslo tried to see if I could just calculate the surface area of a cone. I'm not quite sure how accurate this is though. Btw there is no specific mountain, just one in general.

The calculation of mountain it would be approximately. The simplest Method it's to create a pyramid shape using highest point ,lowest point and average id points with base depend on sides that will appear in plan .Then calculate each triangle of the pyramid ,Sum of triangles area times the base would be area of the mountain .You can use topographic map for calculation which peak it be calculated by pyramid area and rest using wide length and high for each level value that it's provide in the map.

Unfortunately there is no set formula. No two mountains are alike, and thus, there is no catch-all formula that can figure their surface area. That is why you are finding things like digital terrain mapping, because actually looking at in-depth digital mapping is the only way to figure it out.

Break the surface of the mountain into its component geometric figures and calculate them separately.
