It isn't the same width for its full length. It's as wide as 18 miles and as narrow as ΒΌ mile wide at the point where Marble Canyon turns into the Grand Canyon.

It varies a lot, but at the South Rim, where most people go to see it, it is between 7 and 8 miles across to the North Rim, depending on which points you take to measure. That's as the crow, or condor flies. If you want to hike across, it is around 20 miles. And you have to go down around 4500 feet and back up 5500 ft. (The North Rim is higher.)
