Very subjective, depending on what your criteria are (and your definition of a mineral).

Most people would sgree diamond is the most expensive by weight, as in the reference below.

Plutonium and Uranium are not strictly minerals as they are not found naturally, but as ores. The ores themselves are minerals, but they are cheap- it's the enrichment process which is expensive.

If you're talking purely about the most expensive element to occur naturally, it's Iridium.

You see- it's all a matter of definitions.....

the most expensive mineral ( or element ) is uranium 236 and its relatives ( plutonium etc. )

they are the nuclear fuel required for reactors and bombs.

the process of obtaining this true element is called enrichment and is extremely expensive and laborious.

there are countries right now that are beginning to acquire this technology and resources. the ability to produce this mineral imparts great power to those who control it.

as you can well see, the price of this awesome mineral is not cheap. i dont know how much it costs per gram but i will tell you that you wont be able barter uranium for diamonds.

Diamonds are not expensive, what people don't know is that they are very abundant, they are so expensive because they have to cut them. Im not sure what the most valuble raw mineral is but i can tell you it is not a diomond.
