the ceiling of my bedroom is generously decorated with radium stickers, but i am not sure how much amount of radium it contains. it glows in the dark for 3-4 hours well after turning lights off. i have heard that it can also contain phosphorous, only radium or both and as the quantity of radium increases the glowing ability , after turning lights off, increases.

in developed countries like USA, after the "radium girls" incident it might be made safe but i am still in a developing country where they don't follow any rule

its been up there for about 10 years .. will there be any radioactive radiation danger to me... ( i work in my room and stay long hours under the same ceiling almost 23 hours a day)

reply asap... m really worried after reading all its radioactive radiation symptoms..

thanks!!

No way of knowing but the radioactiive particles emitted by these are probably alpha with a very short range and unable to penetrate the skin. It would be a different story if they were eaten or inhaled because the particles could then damage cells inside the body.

Probably safe where they are but if you decided to remove them you would need to damp them thoroughly and wear a mask. Shower after completing the task and fins out from your local council what the want to do with the material.

even if the stickers were radium, you would have to eat them to be a problem. the "radium girls" put the radium paints in their mouth to point the brush. radium does not glow. the glow is from phosphorus compounds which are activated by radiation sources including ordinary light, and they too can be toxic if ingested. stick with a healthy diet of organic foods and you should live a long life.

Radiation has definitely nothing to do with “chemical reactions of radioactive material in touch with non-radioactive material.” Such chemical reactions could or won't occur, but they do not influence the production of radiation and don't have an effect on whether a person succumbs to “radiation health problem.” Radiation health problem happens when an organism absorbs a valuable degree of ionizing radiation, that's, radiation whose photon energy is sufficient to ionize atoms. X-rays and gamma rays are ionizing radiation. Publicity to sources of ionizing of radiation is strictly controlled by way of legislation, besides within the case of nuclear conflict. The effect of ionizing radiation publicity is to disrupt the normal chemical metabolism of cells by the creation of ions. If adequate ions are created the organism dies. Some radioactive isotopes emit ionizing radiation within the type of excessive-vigour gamma rays. For illustration cesium-137 is a powerful gamma ray emitter with a 1/2-life of about thirty years. It's produced in copious portions accordingly of nuclear fission of U-235, both in nuclear power reactors or as the fall-out through-product of a nuclear weapon explosion. You do not have got to ingest a radioactive substance to get radiation poisoning, but any radioactive substance inhaled or ingested in adequate number will certainly motive radiation poisoning. If a man or woman is effectively de-contaminated, it is usually dependable to be round them, offered they have got not ingested or breathed in too giant a range of radioactive material, for the reason that their physique will soak up most of the radiation generated internally. Nonetheless, only a radiation survey meter will inform you whether or not or not a character is safe to be around. Radiation depth diminishes approximately inversely as the rectangular of the distance between source and receiver. Every doubling of distance cuts the publicity in 1/2. Once more, only a radiation survey meter will let you know what is or is not a nontoxic distance from a supply of radiation. There is no chain-response concerned. It's endorsed that you simply stop watching the tv drama sequence, “Jericho.”

If they're fading after a few hours in the dark then they're not based on radium.
